What is "Hyperclean"?

Hyperclean® process refers to Pacific Coast Feather's special washing method of all of the feather and down we use in manufacturing our products. Hyperclean® materials have been washed up to eight times in cleaning agents developed exclusively for Pacific Coast Feather Company. The harsh chemicals traditionally used to clean down and feathers have been replaced by a highly effective but gentle cleaner that leaves the down and feather at a neutral pH. In addition, dust and dirt have been filtered out of the Hypercleaned down and feathers during its processing. This results in down and feathers that are cleaner than the down and feathers found in other natural products. We not only meet the government standards, we surpass them!

What is "Fill Power"?

This is the ability of down to regain its shape when pressure is released. The test of quality is related to the resilience, durability, and memory of the down. The fill power number is taken in a calibrated tube, measuring one ounce of down under a pressure weight. The final number is the total number of cubic inches that one ounce of down will fill. The higher the fill power the higher the insulative warmth factor of the specific down quality. One ounce of 800-fill power down will be warmer than one ounce of 600-fill power down.

What is the fill power on the featherbeds?

There is no fill power of a featherbed because there is no down in featherbeds. The term fill power refers to the measurement in cubic inches that one ounce of down will fill when placed in a glass tube and allowed to loft for up to 72 hours.

Is there an easy way to calculate fill power vs weight?

No. The quality of down is determined by its fill power and cleanliness. Higher fill power indicates larger, stronger clusters from mature geese. The larger clusters have the power to fill more space with less weight. Large clusters loft higher, provide superior insulation, breathability and last years longer than the smaller more fragile down.

Why should I cover my new down comforter?

We suggest using a comforter cover to protect your down comforter from stains, spills, and general soilage, which comes from everyday use. A comforter cover works on the same principal as a pillowcase and is easier to wash than a down comforter. Just slip your down comforter into a comforter cover, change, and launder as your normal sheeting.

How do I keep my featherbed from flattening out?

If after a few nights there is a "sleep spot," you can shake and smooth your featherbed to reposition the fill. Channel constructions will need more maintenance than baffle box construction.

Will my fitted sheet go over my featherbed?

Featherbeds are soft at the edges, so fitted sheets have very little trouble fitting over them. Most fitted sheets have pocket depths ranging from 13" to 19" to fit today's extra-deep mattresses. If your mattress is 12" deep or less, fitted sheets should cover both your featherbed and mattress. You can also put a fitted sheet on your mattress, then put another over your featherbed which makes it alot easier for changing sheets.
